Helping Bermuda End-to-End

COVID-19 is here, but the spirit of Bermuda lives on through AXA’s Bermuda-End-to-End. While our community comes together to help flatten the curve, we worked with the End-to-End board and its sponsors to raise over $100,000 for Bermuda Zoological Society, Vision Bermuda, the Garden Club of Bermuda, and The Family Centre, the 4 charities being supported this year.

Vision Bermuda
“Experiencing vision loss is emotionally devastating."

“We believe that no one should have to face sight loss without support to learn how to manage those everyday tasks and maintain their dignity through independence. We are the only organisation in Bermuda to provide a full range of specialist services supporting people of any age with low or no vision.”

Family Centre
“To strengthen families to create a healthier Bermuda for our children."

Family Centre’s story began when Martha Dismont started tutoring a young boy who needed academic help. This young boy’s mother then referred a number of other children to Martha who were also in need of academic support. Through helping children academically, Martha found out that these children were also facing a number of other issues such as abuse and neglect. She thus founded the organization to offer clinical counseling support to children in Bermuda. Martha and the team at Family Centre soon realized that prevention and capacity building elements were key in stopping the issues before they began, and so the organization began offering training, prevention, and community services.

Bermuda Zoological Society
“Inspire appreciation and care of island environments."

Bermuda Zoological Society is the major support charity for Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo. It funds community outreach projects and public events, award-winning exhibits, world-class animal care, plus top-ranked education, conservation, and research programmes—all accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA).

The Garden Club of Bermuda

The Garden Club of Bermuda was started in 1921 to stimulate interest in horticulture, floral design and related subjects, and to aid in the conservation of natural resources of the Island. To this end its members work hard to raise money for horticultural and environmental scholarships, and to support the local environmental community, whilst having fun along the way!

Music increases cultural cohesion

Music works a lot like language. It’s passed down from generation to generation. In a time of social distancing, we wanted to connect with participants through music. We collaborated with 3 Bermudian artists to curate playlists for participants to listen to on their run, walk or cycle End to End.

The Results

Eeach charity recieved $25,000 for a total of $100,000 raised in 2020’s AXA’s End to End.

A boost at the finish line

A “quirky and compromising” Axa End-to-End went ahead to bolster Bermuda’s charitable sector despite a pandemic that almost put the 32nd event off for this year.
